I thought it would be good to describe what the overall layout of the house is. Seeing only pictures of each room without any context sometimes makes it difficult to figure out where in the house each room is located. Well, Here’s your orientation!
This is a familiar view of the outside of the house from the front:
…And a view from the back:
The floor plan of the first floor:
Here’s entering the house from the back, going through the Florida room. We’ve already replaced the sliding glass door with the 36″ door with sidelight:
Once you go through the back door, you are in the kitchen/dining room:
The vertical line you can see in the wall is where we removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room.
Through the archway (can square openings be called archways?) is the living room. You can also see the Foyer entrance in this screenshot:
The doorway in the bottom of the above picture goes into Bedroom 1:
Here’s what the new design looks like for the bedroom conversion:
Remember when I kicked through the wall? That was between bedroom 1 and bedroom 2.
On the other side of the house is bedroom 3 and the existing bathroom. There’s a little hallway from the kitchen/dining room that goes back to the bathroom and bedroom:
Hope this helps give you a sense of what the house is like. There are two other spaces that aren’t shown here. The unfinished basement isn’t worth creating in 3D ’cause it’s just a big open space with concrete floors and a washer and dryer. Not all that exciting. The other space is the upstairs great room.
Here’s the upstairs attic conversion I put together in Sketchup. I’ll have my office and music room on the one side, and a living space/bedroom on the other.
We hope to eventually create some built-in shelves and cubbies for the bed and might even make it all as one piece. One thing I really want are those wall sconces on each side of the bed. We’ve already got the awesome chair from the 70’s in the florida room, just waiting to have a home.
On the other side of the staircase I’ll have my office/home studio. I can’t wait to finally have a space to work in and write music again. I’ll try to keep it as organized as possible… we’ll see how that goes. I might build shadow boxes for the guitars cause the drywall up there is pretty shoddy. You can see nasty seams even after spending a ton of time trying to even them out. Oh yeah, ordered a massive “fuf” from amazon. It’s basically a big bean bag, but filled with memory foam or something like that. Can’t wait to relax in that beast.
